“With the help of ProjectScotland I was able to find somewhere to gain work experience in an environment that I enjoy working at and that has great staff. Having this has also given me routine which I was lacking while unemployed and doing nothing. Its been an amazing experience and I wouldn’t of found it without ProjectScotland.” – Jason, 25
Jason was referred to ProjectScotland from the Department for Work and Pensions in Aberdeen/Aberdeenshire. Jason struggles with autism and ADD (attention deficit disorder) which makes things difficult for Jason to concentrate on.
Jason was 24 years old when he was referred to me and had some previous work experience working in Homebase as a customer assistant through the DWP kick start scheme. Jason felt this full time role was to much for him to take on and was struggling with finding the right routine that would suit him.
Jason then was introduced to Lauren, the Young Person Guarantee Manager who runs the Aberdeenshire area where she was able to support Jason in finding a volunteering role. This enabled Jason to find the right balance of gaining valuable work experience, being socially active whilst also working on his confidence levels. Lauren found a suitable placement for Jason at the Aberdeen science centre where Jason now volunteers 3 days a week with a mixture of mornings and afternoons. The Aberdeen science centre is a busy place where they have visits from schools and members of the public. When Jason started at the Aberdeen Science Centre he struggled with both confidence and his ability to focus on the job at hand, however over the 12 week placement the feedback from the Science Centre indicated that Jason had exceled in the role, his confidence has increased and his ability to focus on the job has improved.
Jason has now finished his 12 week placement but continues to volunteer there 3 days a week and hopes that an employment opportunity will arise there shortly.
